We have been going to this beach regularly for close on 25 years. Due to the pandemic we have not been back for 2 years, and after yesterday’s visit we will certainly not visit again. Prices have soared and quality has plummeted. My escalope was...not just fried, it was cremated. It was inedible. The service was surly even though the staff and managers knew us of old it was as if they really couldn’t care less. In short, Pirates is true to its name, what they are doing is “criminal”.
Same as the other Juan les Pins beaches I think. The overall experience was a bit expensive, between the sun beds, towels and lunch we came out with 360 Euros which i guess is expensive considering the region. Food was very good. All in all...it was ok.
Bad service. Came without a lunch reservation and was seated in an unfortunate area by the bathrooms. After asking the host to be moved to an empty table close to the beach, and that we only would be there an hour, she said it was...reserved. After we finished and left out lunch after the hour, the table we really wanted to sit at was still empty. This, to me, is bad service and “reservations” which make no sense. I’ll take my $30 anywhere else at the beach. These restaurants are a dime a dozen, go where they are nicer to you!
Juan-les-Pins is one train stop away from Antibes (approx 30 min west of Nice) but seems a world away due to its lazy beach town feel. Much less crowded than Nice and seems to have more local travelers. Of course it doesn’t have the same...charm of Old Town Nice but the beaches have sand! If you’re not towing your own beach towels and umbrella, you can reserve beach chairs by the beach. Other restaurants on the beach offer this, as well, but chairs at Les Pirates are also available on their pier, away from the constant solicitors selling random tourist goods. A great escape off the beaten path!
