Schloss Auerbach - Bensheim

Good local food and plenty of options in the drinks menu- beer and wine from the region. A traditional medieval dinner feast is offered by late fall and previous reservations are required. This was a true back in history' meal!

The schloss stands proud at the top of the hill and can be seen for miles as you approach it. The road up to Schloss Auerbach is a great cork screw ride going round and round as you climb the hill through trees, the car...park is just short of the Schloss around up a steep hill (not a easy push for a wheel chair or pram). The castle was originally built by King Charlemagne well he had it built i cant see him digging the foundations himself) the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, so it is getting on a bit, You can explore the walls and climb to the top of the battlements (that is if you have a head for heights The schloss is a venue for wedding and during our visit there was a wedding taking place with all the guests dressed in medieval costume which was a great sight, they also do medieval performances with a meal thrown in There is a good café on sight with a balcony with miles great views across the surrounding countryside Would I recommend it well yes we have been a number of times when we have been in the area.

I had a very good dinner with a large group of people including some entertainment parts that were organized by the restaurant staff. The food is traditional old-german food with beer or water. The restaurant is next to the medieval castle from where you have...a nice view into the Rhine-valley.

Very beautiful castle in very green location. very charming atmosphere in a very interesting German region
