Rita's Tea Room & Gift Shop - Big Pond

We visited the Tee Room in October 2019 only to find that it had closed down. We were disappointed as there was no indication of this closure on any of the information sites we visited in PEI during our trip.

Big Pond is a lake in Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is located in the southern part of the Bras d'Or Lake and is roughly in the center between the towns of St. Peters. Rita's Teehaus is a notable establishment in Big Pond, a community where the award-winning singer Rita MacNeil once resided. The area is quiet in winter with activities such as church functions, steak darts, and pottery making. In the summer months, Big Pond sees an influx of tourists and visitors. The distance from Sydney to Big Pond is 38 km, which can be covered in approximately 32 minutes. Date of experience: June 2019.

I am disappointed to hear that the teeroom is now up for sale. It is a significant loss for Big Pond and for travelers going to and from Sydney. I hope that someone purchases the space and reopens the teeroom.

Rita’s tea room was on our Bucket list of places to visit during our 4 weeks road trip through the four maritime provinces in may june this year. but when we arrived there, it was closed and even though it had spoken of her son. opening it at another place, there was no timetable if or if that would happen. a real disappointment.

We travelled to this Tea Room specifically taking this route so we could go here. We were very disappointed that it is closed and looks like it has been closed for a long time. Sign was even taken down.
