Maritxu Taberna - Bilbao

Got to say fantastic atmosphere and very friendly bar. Great price on drinks. Some kind of party going on when we arrived. Only found it by chance. While staying at the Mercure Jardines 'de Albia.

We intended to treat ourselves at Bascooks, but it was closed and then found Maritxu Taberna just round the corner. It looks fairly unremarkable, but offered a good choice for both first and second courses including being very ready to accommodate my wife's vegetarianism. Food was well prepared, very tasty, and generous portions. Even the deserts were delicious, not too common in our experience in Spain. Price included wine (probably not what it said on the bottle, but quite reasonable and we could have as much as we wanted from the bottle) and water ... We left very well fed and content. All for less than 12€, close to the river and only a couple of hundred metres from the Guggenheim. Service was good, and friendly, too. We returned a couple of days later for a drink and again were impressed with the quality and value.

A place to have breakfast or eat very well. I repeat safe.

Very good pintxos and cheap. I love waiters!
