The beef Wellington was quite delicious; however, the vegetarian options were extremely limited, which is surprising and disappointing for an Italian restaurant. When I inquired about having a starter served as a main portion, after some discussion, I was informed that it would cost double—over 14,000 kwacha for a bowl of cold pasta seemed outrageous. After we voiced our concerns for the third time and explained that we were unhappy about paying full price for cold food, there was no senior staff member available on-site or even reachable by phone to address the issue. Thankfully, the staff eventually agreed to remove the cold dishes from our bill, but by then, the evening was already ruined. I hope the junior staff don't suffer consequences due to the lack of management presence, both on-site and over the phone.
I had dinner here on Thursday, and it was quite disappointing. Casa Mia used to be my favorite restaurant in Blantyre, but that's no longer true. Three of us ordered different steaks (rump and sirloin fillet), and all three were underwhelming. The fish fillets were the only dishes that met our expectations. Unfortunately, we couldn't voice our concerns because our waitress was rude and unapproachable throughout the evening. Overall, I am extremely disappointed.
The staff was rude, and the food was of low quality. The Wi-Fi didn’t work, and the prices were excessive; they were always asking for more money without providing anything in return. I also didn’t receive my change. I wouldn't recommend this place.
The atmosphere is great and well kept. Nice garden area and outside seating. Perfect lighting inside as well. Quite an unfortunate experience however. Went to Casa Mia for a birthday lunch with a group of friends. The menu was very limited. My experience of the food was really bad. I had the chicken and prawn pasta dish and as I am a Muslim, I asked if it was possible for the white wine to be removed from the dish or if I should order something else. The lady taking our orders said this was possible and so when the food came, I confirmed again if the white wine was not used to prepare the pasta. She confirmed that it had not and that the food had taken a bit longer because they had to replace the white wine with something else. Barely 2 hours after eating at the restaurant, I had a full blown case of food poisoning. I had not eaten anything anywhere else after that and was just getting ready for supper when I had such an upset stomach. I started throwing up uncontrollably together with diarrhea several times in the evening and throughout the night. I was the only one out of the whole friend group and the other person who also ordered the same dish as me was completely fine. We concluded that it must have been whatever ingredient the lady said had been used to replace the white wine. I phoned the restaurant the next day to ask what that ingredient was (I did not immediately mention that I had become sick as a result of it) and the man who answered the phone became defensive saying he wasn 't there so he was not the right person to ask. I told him I knew he wasn 't there but I was just phoning so he could ask the chef so I can just know what it was. He came back to the phone a minute later to tell me the chef claimed that nothing was used to replace the white wine. I told him to please be sure because the lady had said something was used to replace it causing the delay in the food being served. The reason I was calling was because 2 of us had that same dish but one was prepared as normal with the white wine and mine with a replacement. I just wanted to know what it was in case it is something I am allergic to and/or should take note of in future to stay away from or avoid. The man just dismissed it by saying maybe it was something else. I asked if it was the seafood itself and he said, maybe but thank you for your understanding and abruptly cut the phone. I found this to be very unreasonable especially since I did point out that I wasn 't out to blame anyone but just wanted to know because I certainly don 't wish to go to any other restaurant and order something with that ingredient in ti not knowing it will cause me to expel all my insides and have me glued to a toilet seat. I actively avoided most dishes on their limited menu (for example the pork dishes because I know I am allergic to pork as well, apart from my being a Muslim). Overall, not a great experience and I certainly will not be recommending this restaurant to the people who asked about my experience there when I posted on my social media that I would be going there as I am still sick 2 days later after this episode although feeling better enough to type this out. I have no comment with regard to the accommodation as I have never stayed there.
This is a fantastic spot for a dinner or a few drinks, conveniently located near downtown Blantyre. The accommodations are excellent—clean and well-maintained.
