I've seen other reviews that say the staff is rude, but I disagree. They may not be chatty, but they are just doing their job.
Called in as recommended by a friend, I travelled from Mountain Ash for our fish and chip supper and I must say was well worth it, the fish was huge and good size portion of chips that came in a box with free tartare sauce, the food is good value for money and the staff were very polite and friendly, all in all we were very impressed with this chippy that We will now call our local.
Walked into shop was asked if I had a mask, i said I didn’t as I am exempt, from there on the mood instantly changed, if looks could kill!! Asked for cheese chips and gravy in a tray with salt and vinegar, was handed my food again with attitude and without the usual decorum you expect when purchasing something, I will guess this is because I am mask exempt as the servers attitude changed immediately after I informed her of this, if that’s not the reason then I would suggest providing people with a service isn’t the job for this particular person. Left the shop jumped in my van to eat my food, less that half a tray of chips, no cheese and no salt and vinegar and with my can and a bottle of water charged six 6 quid for the privilege! I’ll drive to the next village for my food tomorrow as the service and food here left me with a bad taste in my mouth, excuse the pun.
Before placing my order on the telephone I used Facebook to check out the menu and prices. I have never seen a chip shop offering such a fantastic choice of fish (plaice, haddock, cod, steamed salmon, sea bass, hake as well as fish cakes bites, battered crab sticks and scampie). In addition to this the chip shop also sells a large selection of pies and pasties, chicken, sausages, chilli, chip butties, rissoles, curries, battered burgers, beans and so on. I ordered a large bag of chips, faggots, peas and gravy, a lamb and mint pie and battered calamari in a chilli dip, as well as two corned beef pies for tomorrows tea. The order came to just under £14 which was fantastic value for money. The food was ready when I arrived and the service was very efficient. I will definitely be returning soon.
The portions were generous and the fish was excellent. However, be prepared for a long wait as phone orders seemed to take priority. Despite the wait, the food was still delicious.
