We had a perfect lunch at Da Gioia. The mixed starters (seafood) for two were delicious and the sea view is great. The staff is really nice and the sommelier gave us very good advice on local wines.
Fine dining with impeccable service and stunning seaside scenery rarely exist together, but somehow we were lucky enough to stumble upon this corner of paradise in Capri. We normally plan ahead for all our dining experiences when we travel, however for our trip to Capri we wanted to just go with the flow and wing it. After a lovely little breakfast in the main square we took to our feet and explored the island by walking. By chance, we ended up walking done this hundreds and hundreds of steps down to one of the little beaches only to find this gem of a restaurant right on the beach and it’s own little cove. It looks like the restaurant has has a recent renovation as the decor is bang up to date. We were greeted with smiles all around by the lovely attentive staff. We were seated by the window overlooking the restaurant’s private beach, the photos speak for themselves, the definition of paradise. The menu was unexpected as it’s more akin to a Michelin starred fine dining experience, prices are on the high side but totally expected for such a location and level of service. The staff were very very attentive but not intrusive, our water glasses were always topped up and we constantly fussed over with fresh plates and cutlery etc. The food was cooked fresh and came in a timely manner. Even though the prices are high we weren’t expecting the food to be this good in such a location. Both our pastas were cooked to perfect and ingredients fresh from the sea in true fine dining style. The desert was exquisite and a perfect way to end our dining experience here. Congratulations to Salvatore and his front of house team for making our time here such a memorable one. We’ve had a lot of great meals on this trip, but the one here at Da Gioria will be the one to remember for many years to come. It really made our trip to Capri that more special. Highly recommend that anyone coming to Capri to get a booking here at Da Gioria. But I’d recommend taking the bus or taxi down to the beach, the stairs are brutal.
Recently renovated small beach resort on the north side of Marina Piccola. It is managed by La Palma a luxury hotel which has not opened yet (September 2022). The structure is modern and elegant, the staff professional and considerate. However, we spent most of a Saturday and the experience has not been flawless. Despite having reserved beds and table, we had to wait 20 minutes twice, as in both cases they had placed someone else on our beds and our table. For lunch we had excellent fried shrimps and fish tartare, followed by a very salty seafood scialatelli and tasteless and overcooked clam linguine We also had an impeccably cooked brim, which we found overpriced (eur 120 for 800g). We were not charged for the scialatelli and offered two desserts to compensate for the above inconveniences. Hence, not a memorable day but it is probably reasonable to assume that over time the machine will be better oiled and the quality of food and service will match the ambition.
