Restaurant 1770 - COOKTOWN

If you're craving a prawn feast accompanied by a refreshing drink, this restaurant is the perfect spot. The beer and white wine are served chilled, while the scenic views of the river and nearby mountains add to the relaxing atmosphere. The prawns are fresh and served in generous half-kilo portions, perfect for a satisfying meal. The service follows the laid-back style typical of Far North Queensland, and the prices are reasonable for the area.

The coral trout was fresh and very interestingly presented withHollandaise sauce and Chinese veggies and baby roast potatoes. The pistachio and olive oil cake finished off an excellent meal.

I was part of a large party. Despite this, the food was beautifully cooked, the atmosphere was great, and the service was friendly.

Dined here on a Saturday night. The location was absolutely stunning and I think is what keeps this place afloat. The service was interesting in that our main waiter was a little relaxed and left field. The girl helping out was hopeless and responded to a question about dessert with "I don't know, I haven't worked here long".Food wise we started with Thai Crispy Beef Salad and Deep Fried Salt & Pepper squid. The starters were ok. I wish the beef in the salad had been more evenly cooked. Some pieces were crispy, whilst some were overdone and some fairly lightly cooked. The flavour though was nice.For main we had fish & chips and coral trout fillet. The fish and chips were pretty good although the chips were curled potatoes rather than chips. The coral trout fillet was average. I was expecting one piece of fillet and got three lumps. It was ok but I wasn't wowed.For dessert we had chocolate lava cake that tasted like it had come straight out of the freezer. It was also very salty.Overall I'd give this place 6/10. Stunning views but I'd probably eat elsewhere next time.

I have never had such delicious barramundi and squid before. You must visit this place, the food is truly superb.
