It felt like we were being attacked and we didn't feel comfortable throughout the meal. When we asked about a drink they didn't have, they offered no alternatives and just stared at us. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
This restaurant is like a typical cafeteria. The Fish Chowder was decent, but not particularly tasty. The clubhouse sandwich had processed cheese slices instead of real Cheddar, and the ham was fatty. The fries were homemade, but not very crispy. Overall, we won't be returning to this place.
When we visited, the server had to ask for a menu. Some of the menu items were available in the cafeteria-style menu. Salads were made to order.
We went to lunch during a working day. The set-up was a bit like a cafeteria (the food along a counter where you pay and the tables throughout the restaurant), but the food was great and the portions were fair. The service... was a little slow, but they were blown up with the lunch break, so I don't think it bad when the server was polite and competent.
We have dined at this restaurant several times over the years and it continues to be one of the top spots for a Turkey Dinner on the West Coast of Newfoundland, and possibly the entire Island. Guests have the option to wait in line at the cafeteria-style area or enjoy table service; either way, the food comes from the same kitchen. The restaurant boasts a fantastic atmosphere and the staff are incredibly friendly, talkative, and willing to assist. It is always bustling with locals, which speaks volumes about its popularity.
