Captain's Table - Custer

We dined at the Captain's Table on a Monday night in September. I wasn't impressed by the exterior of the restaurant, but with limited options available in Custer on a Monday, I decided to give it a try. This turned out to be a very poor decision. First impressions matter, and this one was terrible. The establishment had a lingering smell of stale smoke, and our server appeared disheveled, wearing dirty clothes and seemingly not having showered in a while, with gaps in his teeth. Inside, the decor felt extremely outdated and worn.

The service was excellent, even with the staffing challenges that many restaurants are facing. The food was delicious—my husband enjoyed the fish and chips with slaw, while I had the steak and salad. We were part of a large group, consisting of six adults and two children, and the staff did a fantastic job accommodating us. Thank you to the team for making our experience so enjoyable!

I highly recommend avoiding this restaurant unless you have no other options. If you do decide to go, just order the overpriced $10 fries but bring your own salt, as you’ll save on the tip too. The service is truly abysmal, and the staff closely monitors your every move. I left the place feeling more hungry than when I arrived. We spent over a hundred dollars on our first visit, and it was our first time ever wanting to return our food and leave as quickly as possible. Overall, I would rate the experience a negative infinity. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

It wasn't bad. Server was really nice. The food, that we ordered, was frozen to deep fried. I think it was a bit pricey as nothing was actually prepared there. Frozen shrimp, fish and fries....deep fried and served on fancy plates.

Carla is a gem of a waitress and was helpful and hospitable the whole time! The infused cinnamon apple and orange liquors were delicious. The fish and chips was great and so was the hash brown casserole side. Yummy house made ranch as well. Great experience overall, but I think the entrees were a bit overpriced given the portion size. The service and food itself was otherwise a thumbs up.
