The meal we had planned for our final night had spoiled in our cooler, so we decided to get takeout bring it back to our campsite. I had heard SO many rave reviews about how Camp used to be so amazing when it was owned by the chef that was on Top Chef (it's not anymore apparently? . I was concerned the food would be sub par, as there aren't a lot of restaurant options in Elkwater, but I was intrigued when I looked at the menu. My husband and I both ordered the Big Tasty Burger, and shared a Smash Salad (without chicken and the Bacon Baked Beans, and let me tell you we were both blown away by how good the food was! The salad was very unique, light and fresh; the beans were smoky, not mushy or overly salty (like some can be ; and the burgers were juicy, well seasoned and huge. My in laws visited the next night and told us they thought the food was amazing as well. I appreciated that they served the takeout in biodegradable dishes (even a paper bag! . You can't see it from the entrance, but there is a nice sizeable patio behind the restaurant for those that don't feel comfortable eating indoors yet. I will happily eat here again the next time we camp in Elkwater!
Everything is made from scratch and the menu is interesting. We stopped for lunch on the patio when out for a daytrip on the September long weekend. Food was excellent and well priced. Service was good and the washrooms were clean. The store was fun to browse good selection.
This restaurant does not do reservations. Having said that when we were seated, the three parties that came in behind us were all served first. I was very angry about it. The gentlemen beside us finished thier meal before we even received ours. Terrible service and small portions, but the food was good.
We sheltered from the rain in the restaurant and have been back twice more because it is so good! Prices are very reasonable with delicious food!!! The store is fabulous with lots of gadgets and has everything we have been looking for over 10 days of camping not to mention even did some Christmas shopping. Found it by accident but so glad we did.
If I wasn’t starving when I got to the lake I wouldn’t have gone again. I agree with another recent review here about the poor quality of food here, I also can’t understand the ratings her either...I, my wife or literally anyone we know never says the food is any more than mediocre at best! I paid $10 for a handful of soggy fries and 1/2 a cup of so called bacon n beans or something. The beans were pale and bland with no hint of bacon flavour at all...actually the thing you tasted most was the abundance of raw green onion. Lesson again re-learned...should have just went another km up the road to the other place or went back to camp and cooked myself!
