Was really looking forward to Saba Wicklow St, lots of good reviews, menu looked good, looks nice inside and friendly welcome when we got there. However, cannot be happy with any restaurant where we order a starter, two mains and two beers from an a-la-carte menu for €75 and the food is served and we're finished barely 30 minutes after we sit down (arrived 20:15 finished before 20:45). Have never had a meal served to me so fast, and arriving at 20:15 , I'd expect to have a nice evening in any restaurant in Dublin city centre. Doesn't matter whether the food is good or not (it was grand, but not special)... when I go out for a meal in a restaurant in town at that time of the evening, I don't expect to be finished barely half an hour after I arrive. This experience wasn't unique to us either as another couple arrived after us, and if anything, their food arrived even faster. Despite all the other positive reviews on this restaurant, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and my first visit will also be my last one. Not a place for a special meal.
My pals and I went for an early lunch when I was home in Dublin last month (sorry for the late review). It was a special request from me as I adore the food here and go or order at least once, every time I'm home..... there is something a bit special about their recruitment policy because they always have really, really lovely staff! As usual, our food was exquisite..... we had a mix between the 4 of us and shared, and all the dishes were really spectacular..... also, they do AMAZING cocktails..... I'm honestly salivating even thinking about it.... I'm counting down the days until March when I'll definitely be back again! Keep up the good work lads....
We visited here for dinner on New Years Day and were both very impressed. The food was lovely, and we don't have a negative comment about the food at all! It was very busy, yet we had great service and the food arrived in a fair amount of time too. The only negative we have is that the tables are very close together. We were sat to the side and felt sandwiched between other tables... the waitress couldn't fit in between the tables to take orders or put the plates on the table. This also meant that it was hard for people to get in/out (the family next to use apologised every time they got up for the toilets with their child). The amount of tables and lack of space in there also meant that it was very loud. If you want a quiet dinner, this is NOT the place to go to. We really struggled to hear what we were saying to each other and almost found ourselves shouting, especially when ordering. It got less busy as the evening went on, so it was a lot quieter towards the end of the meal.
Nice surroundings loved the photo's on the walls. Lots of friendly, helpful smiley staff. Let down by the food veg spring rolls with little taste and the ubiquitous sweet chili sauce. Rice that was barely warm. Green curry that had no taste other than chili (which we like ... but a good thai green curry has more complexity). Chicken dish which contained meat that had an odd consistency probably reheated. Had hoped for better.
