We arrived for a late lunch but we enjoyed every moment of it. Four of us ordered the fish and chips while our daughter-in-law went for the burger. Everyone was satisfied with their meal as there was a generous amount of food and the prices were very reasonable. I had lunch the day before at a restaurant in Ivy Lea and it did not measure up to Hotel Kenney. Thank you for a wonderful lunch, Hotel Kenney!
We were traveling by houseboat on the Rideau Canal for the forth time, having stopped here once before for lunch 10 years ago. The Kenney is an old lodge right on the water at the bottom of Jones Falls Locks. The dinning room overlooks the river and the first lock. We stopped in for lunch and were amazed at the quality of the food, at reasonable price. It was so good we decided to go back for dinner. They had three main meals at lunch and dinner (different for each meal), soup of the day/meal, salads and home made deserts for both meals. There were also sandwiches and wraps available for lunch. Patrons we met were either other boaters or people staying at the hotel/cabins, with meals included. One couple had been coming since the early 1970s from Pennsylvania every year.We really love the location with a large lock complex to explore and great views. The food was excellent and the service relaxed and very helpful. If you're in the area, don't miss it!!!
The architecture and scenery are exceptional, making a visit just to see the site worthwhile. The service, despite being busy on a Friday night, was welcoming. Though the menu is not extensive, the dishes we tried were all delicious. It is recommended to call ahead to confirm their hours of operation as they are not always open.
We visited the hotel for afternoon tea for two, and then went to an ice cream shop the following weekend to treat the family to ice cream. The service was always friendly and the prices were reasonable.
Visited the hotel restaurant for dinner. Food was very tasty, good portions and very reasonably priced. Limited menu; but everything that came out of the kitchen looked like it was prepared and served with pride. Service was great as well. The wine list was good; although not everything was available. You may be able to bring your own. The view is onto the water at the locks at Jones Falls, part of the Rideau system. This is another restaurant that I will definitely try again.
