Feedback gevenFEW actually F.E.W Distillery is a hole in the wall gem that puts out an array of fine spirits from a micro, micro operation. Finding it is half the fun it being tucked down an alleyway next to the train tracks behind some nondescript stores. The rustic entry doubles as a tasting room. Directly behind you is about 90% of the operation. Reservations need to be made due to the small size of the operation but we booked same day on a Saturday without a problem. Our host was a pleasant street wise chick whose initially kitchy delivery grew on me as the samples were...sampled. The tour involves standing and pointing at the stills and other equipment where everything is made. Simple but very cool. The output basically Gin (because it can be sold without aging) and Bourbon because.. bourbon are interesting and surprisedly smooth. After tasting about 6 types of gin and bourbon I sprung for a bottle of Bottled in Bind Whisky. The owner even happened by when we were there. A great stop for a quick drop. F.E.W....phew....Go
What followed was truly exceptional. During the tour, we learned about Evanston's history of temperance and prohibition, the inception of the FEW Distillery project, and the process of grain production, fermentation, distillation, and aging or bottling. Lil's engaging and humorous demeanor, combined with her industry expertise and personal stories, made the experience truly unforgettable. The highlight of the tour was the 5-sample tasting flight, which showcased some incredibly flavorful and innovative gins and whiskeys. This intimate and informative tour is definitely worth it, largely due to the fantastic host that made us feel right at home. Thank you for an enjoyable time!
Located off the main street, FEW Spirits has a mystical charm. In addition to sampling their spirits, you can also learn about the history of Evanston. And don't forget, you can buy your favorite bottles of spirits right on the spot.
This awesome little distillery hidden behind the retail shops in Evanston is everything a craft distillery should be, intimate, genuine, and authentic. Our tour guide provided a variety of samples as well as interesting anecdotes regarding the founding and operations of FEW. We will certainly be back for a Friday happy hour!
Wow! We discovered FEW today for our friend's birthday and were blown away! Our birthday friends LOVES Few, so we stopped by when we saw the tables. We are so glad that we did! Lo was our host and they were AMAZING! Not only were we thoroughly introduced to the amazing liquors at FEW, but Lo gave us a phenomenal history of the drinks and brand. My personal favorite tidbit was the historical significance of the name F.E.W. If this intrigues you, patronize FEW and ask yourself Of all the liquors we tried, my personal favorites were the Barrel Aged Gin and the Bourbon with a cold brew coffee finish. Yum! We also tried out some cocktails: the Billy Dixon, Propeller, and Old Fashioned. I ordered the propeller and tried the other two...the Propeller was the best. I highly recommend. High quality drinks, EXCELLENT service from Lo, and a cozy ambiance in the alley...it was a perfect experience. We cannot wait to return for another visit in the future! Thanks Lo and FEW!
