The medieval town of Fürstenau in the canton of Graubünden is considered the smallest town in the world. It is home to Schauenstein Castle. It is the house of delights. It is not limited to the culinary art of the master of the house. The house radiates its beauty and elegance. But it is not only the luxury, but also the style that has inspired us. You feel welcome and comfortable here. Schauenstein Castle is a beautiful, well kept place that is run with great attention to detail. The owners place great emphasis on hospitality and the needs of a wide variety of guests we felt that. Shortly after our arrival, the owner greeted us personally. Andreas Caminada has been running Schauenstein Castle together with his wife Sahra since 2003. In 2010, the restaurant was awarded 3 stars in the Guide Michelin and 19 points in Gault Millau; the house is one of the 50 best restaurants in the world. The castle has no lift, so climbing stairs can be a pleasure. The upper floor is divided into three rooms, a fireplace salon (formerly the smoking room), a dining room with large tables and a salon with French paintings (painting salon). The paintings were brought to Fürstenau from Paris around 1790. The aperitif and, in bad weather, dinner also take place on this floor. There are only nine lovingly furnished oases of well being (3 suites and 6 rooms) and they have names from nature, such as lime, chestnut, fire, earth, water and air. The suites are furnished in different designs. Our room is a cosy room on the first floor of the lovingly renovated Meierhaus, directly opposite the castle. The room has a queen size bed, a cosy reading corner, a spacious bathroom with shower, free standing tub and WC. The self service espresso machine rounds off our very good impression. You can also relax in the beautiful castle garden by the pool. The culinary evening began at 6.45 pm with a sumptuous aperitif on the terrace, where we were presented with the menu. There was a choice of 3 to 5 courses, including 2 exclusive surprise dishes if you wanted to indulge in some ultimate taste sensations. At 7pm we were escorted to our table by a service staff member. With respect and consideration, we were allowed to take photos of each gourmet course. The different creations of the culinary artists were not only visually fascinating it was a pleasure of the highest level. We were also impressed and delighted by the friendliness, attentiveness and helpfulness of the entire team. For this we thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts. It is good to know that something like this also exists in Switzerland. Around 11.00 pm we left the dining room and enjoyed coffee on the terrace with delicious friandises to finish. The next morning, the rich and delicious breakfast was served to us in the main building (in the painters ' hall). So we were able to start the day with joy. A very big thank you goes to our dear brother and brother in law in San Francisco. He gave us this culinary trip to Graubünden Schloss Schauenstein in Fürstenau with Andreas Caminada remains an unforgettable experience for us.
