Bushmere Arms - Gisborne

The food was quite delicious, but the service was noticeably slow. There was only one person in the kitchen, which contributed to the long wait time. We also experienced delays with ordering and receiving drinks. Our dinner took a total of 2 hours and 40 minutes, with over an hour wait for the appetizer and another hour for the main course. The venue itself was pleasant, and the bar staff and waitresses were friendly.

I would give Bushmere Arms 10 stars if I could. My last visit was in 2002, and I left just as impressed this time in December 2017. You can really tell when restaurant managers make an effort for their guests. The gardens surrounding the restaurant are a delight to stroll through, filled with roses, lilies, fruit trees, fountains, arched hedges, and sculptures—it truly feels like the Garden of Eden. The food is simply exquisite. While the restaurant is renowned for its beef and lamb, as a vegetarian, I was not disappointed at all. The mushroom ravioli arrived wrapped like little candies, and the tomatoes were so sweet they tasted like candy. I could have eaten vats of the carrot and ginger soup and still wanted more. Then came the lemon surprise, the most delightful creation that ended my meal on a memorable note. I had to choose from at least six other desserts, and I can assure you that my fellow diners were equally pleased. The only downside is the wait time, but it is absolutely worth it. There are very few restaurants where the chef has been there for so long and where the management takes such pride in maintaining the beauty of the place. It is, without a doubt, the most exquisite restaurant I have ever visited.

A local recommended we check out the Bushmere Arms, and I'm so glad she did! We had the most delicious lunch in a stunning setting. It was refreshing to stroll through the grounds and take in the beautiful gardens. We really enjoyed the food and local wine. I would definitely return, as I can only imagine how enchanting it must be in the evening.

Brilliant host and perfect spot for a Winter celebration. Excellent pre lunch nibbles around a fireplace. Very good function room for lunch. Fantastic wait staff. Quality menu choices and superb cooked meal. Understanding accomodating staff, when two extras arrived. Will use again.
