I've been going to Nick's for years for one thing - his western sandwich with fries and gravy. Haven't seen Nick there for a while so am hoping he's enjoying a well earned retirement. The couple there now are very nice and friendly people but they've done something and I don't know what to my standard. For the first time in all the years that I've gone there, I left with 3/4 of my meal going into the trash. There was an off taste to the bread, the gravy was tasteless and the fries were a bit soggy and undercooked. All the way back to my office I was worrying that my lunch might come back for a second visit but fortunately it didn't. Am sad to see the changes because good westerns are hard to find.
I was in the mood for a classic bacon cheeseburger with fried onions, fries, and a can of soda for only $8. Yes, please!
I ordered the pan-seared Haddock, which was just okay. My main issue (and I know this is a common complaint among diners) is that the French fries weren't fresh-cut.
I am sorry to hear that Nick's has closed. It was a charming spot to grab a bite to eat. I wish the owners the best of luck at their new pizza place on the Bedford Highway.
