Honolulu’s oldest food cooperative! Great local produce and meat! Awesome Deli!
Store is pretty great. It 's not a true co-op. Not worker owned at all. Kind of a misnomer in the name, a bit misleading tbh. Don 't expect everything you need here. I buy according to what they have. The downsides: Items priced are exorbitantly and are often expired. The frozen waffles and pizzas are almost all expired. Wouldn 't buy them at that price regardless. The half-off section usually has items that are past expiration which is kind of a shame because the least the could do is put them there a week out. Down to earth and times at least try to do this. Bulk section is nice. Again, at times they don 't have the item you 'd like but it 's aight. Fruit and vegetables are a mixed bag of quality. The local stuff can be downright delicious provided they 're picked at peak ripeness, not for shelf stability. One can buy fruits that never ripen. Keep an eye on that! Staff are mostly nice. Sometimes they overcharge you so, always ask for an itemized receipt. It 's easy to do provided a lot of items do not have barcodes for the checker. At times they don 't know the product. Coffee by the door is pretty good for drip. The milk fridge for the togo coffee is a bit of a kerfuffle to use. Could use some improvement in flow. Often times they also have issues opening. The frequent line is our registers are down, we 'll be opening later. Not sure what 's going on here but it 's a let down at times. It 'd be nice if they opened earlier. I appreciated the free wine for the new year. That was a nice little promotion. They could be better about letting you know about these things. Over all, it 's a fairly pleasant experience shopping. Parking is almost always available in all the times I 've gone.
Go to Makana Provisions in the back! Their burgers are so YUMMY!!! I love the way they pack them with lettuce, onions, pickles and more. The buns don't get soggy. These burgers actually keep really well for over a day or even two. I tried the Hapa and the Wagyu and I can't decide which I like better. Both are great. Saturday is BBQ burger day!
This local market is fantastic, offering beautiful fresh organic produce. There's an excellent selection of vegetables, fruits, spices, oils, and unique local products—especially the baked goods! We enjoyed a delicious homemade cookie while seated on their lovely benches, shaded by trees. The staff is incredibly kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. If you enjoy cooking, this is the perfect place to shop. It's conveniently located right next to the Hale Mahana Student Apartments.
