The chef took the time to chat with some guests, which added a nice personal touch. The restaurant also features amazing artwork. It's a hidden gem in a less touristy area, and more people should definitely check it out!
We dined here during our final days in Oahu, and we're so pleased we chose to give it a try. We opted for a family-style meal and shared the koji-aged steak, roasted chicken, and seafood risotto. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, and the chef even came out to greet us and check on our experience. We loved the food, the ambiance, and the service. We hope to return soon!
We started with several appetizers: corn bread, naan with curry, octopus, and the special of the day. Among these, the corn bread was the standout. The naan was delicious, but the curry sauce didn’t quite impress us. We didn’t try the special as it turned out to be zucchini fritters, which I can’t recall much about. As for the entrées, they were incredibly rich and filling. Even though portions looked small in pictures shared by other guests, we certainly felt satisfied after our meal. We ordered the special (a porridge with smoked ham), two pasta dishes (one with pork and the other without, but both made with homemade noodles), and a steak. The porridge was absolutely delicious and rich, especially with the salty ham, especially after all the appetizers we had. The pappardelle with pork ragu was decent, but my dish, the agnolotti with mushrooms, was simply divine. The 12oz steak, aged with koji, was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth fantastic. There was plenty to share, and we were even able to take leftovers home. Even though we were quite full, we couldn’t resist dessert! We opted for the Oreo-coffee-chocolate pie, which was the center option among three on the menu. I stuck to water, so I can’t comment on the beverages, but my friends enjoyed theirs! Overall, I highly recommend visiting Kapa Hale! Make sure to try the rotating specials and definitely indulge in the steak. The service is exceptional, and the chef is undeniably creative.
By far our favorite meal on our trip! We made reservations and were thrilled to sit near the beautiful mural in the restaurant. Husband and I ordered a drink (him a NYC Fashioned and me a Lychee Ginger Chu hai). For appetizers, we have the maize bread, Hawaiian beef tars, and the Everyday I'm Brusselin' all good, but the Brussel spears were by far our favorite appetizer (we were tried to get another order). For our most important entrees I got the signature Tagliatelle alla shrimp bulgogi pork bolognese and it was so good! Husband got the **** schnitzel de lechon and the pig bell and sauce was good from this world. We couldn't help and pamper ourselves in dessert. The lemon depot was amazing and the Miso Soy was very tasty and I wish I knew the recipe. The staff was friendly and helpful. We loved our dinner so much, we looked very much back the next day, but have to visit again in the future. Love, love, LOVED our meal!
We had an absolutely dining experience at Kapa Hale. For starters the food was absolutely INCREDIBLE. Every dish from staters to dessert was fantastic. The chef personally came over to our table to see how everything was and have a chat which is always such a nice touch. The servers were outstanding, thoughtful, and we never wanted for anything. Also the cocktails were fantastic. Amazing fine dining take on local food experience that is pushing new boundaries as far as ingredients and combinations!
