Feedback gevenJavan is a hidden gem located in a back alley of Hornsby. It may be easy to overlook on Dural Lane, but it is conveniently close to the railway station. The restaurant has a plastic tablecloth, which I'm not a fan of, but it is practical and easy to keep clean. The service is polite, though a bit disorganized and the staff's English is not the best. However, I was there to eat and they were really nice. The ambiance and service were average. The food, while not particularly unique, was beautifully presented and very tasty. The joojeh (young chicken) was especially moist and delicious. Overall, everything was excellent, even the rice was enjoyable. Considering the generous portions, I believe it is worth a visit. I will definitely be returning.
Please note that this restaurant has undergone new management in 2019. I have dined here four times since then and each experience has been fantastic. The food was consistently great and the service was friendly, efficient, and prompt. During my second visit, I mentioned to the waitress that the drinks were not cold enough. On my third visit, she remembered my feedback and brought me a glass filled with ice to ensure my drink was chilled to my liking. I find it interesting that, despite offering better quality than other similar restaurants in the area, their prices are actually cheaper.
Four of came here for dinner on a Friday night after booking on the Wednesday and it was lucky we did! There were 4 large groups in there (and the room is not large to start with and only 2 tables for smaller groups available...on this night. The service was fabulous, the waitress went out of her way to accommodate my unusual food requirements (ketogenic diet and after discussing these with the chef, was able to provide a lovely meal not on the menu. The other three in our group loved their meals, although the amount of food on each plate could easily feed at least 2 people! My husband’s slow cooked lamb shank was delicious although not quite heated through enough and was still a bit cool in the middle. The location on the ‘old’ side of Hornsby in Dural Lane is convenient from the point of view that there is plenty of parking in the 2 car parks adjacent to the lane and in the streets alongside. My only complaint (other than the lamb would be the noise inside. With blinds on the windows and hard floors and walls, there is nothing to absorb the noise (and with big groups, that can’t be helped! , so it was difficult to talk to one another without having to yell. For this reason we skipped dessert and went elsewhere for coffee even though we would preferred to have stayed. The food is very reasonably priced and very tasty and the customer service excellent. It cost us $68 tip for the 4 of us (we brought our own wine and beer .
The lamb shank was served with fennel infused rice and broad beans. It made the meal. Dessert was a delicious piece of baklava and a marinated cinnamon tea. We talked to the owner , Ali, who speaks 11 languages.
The food is not bad but the owner of the business is not trustworthy at all. We decided to have our birthday party over there. Two weeks ago, Agreed on everything and paid a deposit. Again went there to confirm everything which the owner said...something totally different to what we agreed and denied everything. What a disgrace. Such a disrepctful man. Will not recommend it at all.
