The Library is a really great place to go to get a drink in a setting that is lower in volume — both people and noise. The drinks are very good — I recommend the Margaret Walker (a basil gimlet). The beer menu isn’t the most extensive, but a large selection of well made mixed drinks. The patio outside or one the the two rooms inside are great for having a drink and an actual conversation that isn’t had at a level of having to yell over people or music.Kid-friendliness: Not really a place to bring the kids — an upscale sort of place that is for adults hanging with adults in my opinion.Parking: Parking for the library is in the lot of an older medical building to the left of the Library Lounge.
We went here last night for a Saturday night girls’ night and had a party of 6. As soon as we walked up, we were impressed with the presentation, atmosphere, and the vibes of the library lounge and the hotel. We were seated immediately and our server was Taja! She was super personable and fun, and she did a great job. The drinks were all delicious and we enjoyed all of the drinks. Although, at about 9:30pm after only one of us had ordered an espresso martini and the bar said they couldn’t make anymore of them which seemed too early in the night for that. We ordered a few appetizers, the first of which was the pimento cheese “beignets” which were amazing!! We expected the rest of the food to follow suit. The charcuterie board was decent, the truffle fries were almost plain French fries with one or two cheese sprinkles on them, and we got the dessert sampler which was a huge disappointment. We ordered the crème brûlée, brownie, key like pie, and peach cobbler to be in the sampler and we got the brownie, red velvet cake, a cookie ? , and something that looked like white cake with green jelly icing on it key lime pie? , and Taja said that the kitchen told her to essentially “take it or leave it”. One of the girls in the group recognized the cookie as being from Whole Foods, so I would not be surprised if everything came from a grocery store cookie, cupcake, or brownie. All of that to say, I would still suggest you check out this cool spot, but I would not take a chance on any of the food except the pimento cheese “beignets”.
I’ve dined here regularly and tonight was the last time. A friend and I settled in on the patio around 7pm. While not very busy, service was extremely slow. There was only 1 server. My friend order portobello fries. It took almost 50 minutes to get to the table and then they came out looking like beer battered cod- huge greasy battered hunks of mushroom. After one bite, it was a no and sent back. There was a significant wait between each dish that we ordered. I ordered fries. The kitchen forgot to drop them. Our amazing server Blake came back to tell us the bad news and we laughed saying at least they’d be hot. They finally came around 8:30pm.After asking for our receipts, our server came and told us that the manager refused to remove the portabello fries from the tab because “there was nothing wrong with them”. We politely asked to speak with said manager. My friend was displeased with the mushroom fries and it took forever to get to our table.Peter, the owner came out and my friend calmly explained the concern. He said a firm “No” and rudely told us that he was in the kitchen and we were lying about about the time we received our food. Next, he brought over the server who confirmed our wait time. Peter still refused to the remove the item. We both expressed that this would be our last time patronizing the establishment if the item wouldn’t be removed from the ticket.I told Peter that I dine there often and if an $8 appetizer was worth the price of hundreds of dollars in business then so be it. He said that was fine with him and walked away. You only have to tell me one time that you don’t want my money. I’ll gladly spend it at Manship, Elvies or any place other than here.
