However, this time the menu was old fashioned "Pub" food & at very affordable prices. There was a good selection which would satisfy nearly any taste form steaks, seafood & pasta . They have a manageable range of starters & the side salad served with your main meal is full of goodies. T Bone steak @ $16 was the most expensive item on the menu & a couple of the pasta dishes were only $8. All in all extremely good food & well within the family budget.
We went here for lunch not expecting too much, but even then there was only us and one other table and it took over 40 minutes to cook our meals. Then our meals were burnt and over cooked. Not once did someone ask how our meals were, very disappointing as a local won't be coming back.
Second time at this restaurant and both times, I've pre advised the chef that a decent vego meal would be appreciated. The chef makes a great vego dish free from pasta and the usual stuff that adorns the meat based menus of many places. Each time the meal has been pleasant to eat.The restaurant is actually called The Flaming Steer Restaurant its located inside the Macleay Hotel
I was staying in the City Centre Motel nearby and the Pasta with Chicken and Bacon shown on the in-room advertising sheet took my fancy, as all I wanted was an easy take away meal. I phoned the Hotel who said that the order would be about 20 minutes and by the time I walked up there, the meal was ready to take away. I explained to the chef that I was staying in the motel and had no fork or spoon to eat with, which he said was no problem. He gave me a hotel fork and spoon to take and asked only that I return them the next day which I did. The meal was tasty and filling and well worth the reasonable cost. The service was impeccable. Good old country pub service. I love it! I would not hesitate to eat here again and recommend others to give this pub a go.
Chicken Hawaiian and a Green Beef Thai Curry was ordered for ur evening meal. Both meals were OK, nothing to write home about on this occasion. But I would eat here again if in Kempsey and give the Hotel a 2nd go.
