Local Boys Shave Ice - Kīhei

We visited this restaurant with two guys who had a tough day. They had been asking for ice cream all day, but it seemed they were about to lose the chance for a treat. We stopped and let them know they could get ice cream, but unfortunately, they missed out. I’m writing this review because the owner must have overheard our conversation and took the time to speak with the guys as well. She shared some kind words that felt comforting, almost like what you’d hear from a parent. To make a long story short, the next day turned out to be much better, and we made a point to return. The ice cream and shaved ice were fantastic!

When I inquired about the prices of the large and medium sizes, she informed us that the large would cost $16, while the medium was $8 and the small was $6. Given the high price of the large, we opted to share it, but it turned out to be smaller than we expected. To top it all off, when we got to the bottom of our dessert, we found a long black hair! We were utterly disappointed, especially after spending $16. Save your time and money and go elsewhere!

Location: Lahaina. My first experience at this shave ice spot was pretty much like any other busy place—it's really hot here, even hotter in Lahaina. However, what stood out to me was the quality of the ice; it was soft and fluffy. They offered three flavor selections, with the ice on the bottom and the toppings on top. My favorite is the Snow Cap. The pricing is also quite reasonable, so you won’t break the bank for some refreshing shave ice in Hawaii. The best ice cream in Maui! Period! Very local. Awesome flavors shaved ice is perfect consistency and the ice on the ground is the bomb!

On a recent visit to Maui we wanted to try this shaved ice place and found out the one we had planned to visit was closed. Local Boys South has permanently closed. So we decided to make the drive to the other location. We were not disappointed! My husband got one with ice cream on the bottom and I got one without. After building a huge mound of ice and adding our flavors she asked if wanted cream on the top. We asked her just to put a little bit at first so we could try it! It was delicious. So all that being said, opt for the cream on top! It was so good my husband drove out of the way the next day to get another one. Highly recommend!
