KI Tru Thai - KINGSCOTE

Yes at night it's down a dark gravel road, but you arrive at a large usually busy carpark just outside a big farm building. It's a little like a large barn inside.We visited on recommendation from our daughter who thought that the food was pretty good. The atmosphere with live music and fire drums was laid back and very family friendly. Amazing food, and very fresh. Drinks are reasonably priced. We highly recommend dining here, but as it can get busy arrive early.Dress casual and if it looks like being a cool night wear very warm socks.

Best value for money and best quality food in K.I. Open at venue on Thurs, at other locations other days. Do not go to K.I. without eating here, highly recommended especially buffet. Live music also. Hats off to the chef and to the very nice maitre d.

We stumbled upon this while searching online and called ahead to book. But when we reached, we were surprised. The place is basically a run-down shed transformed with a food truck and a bar. At first you feel it is a bunch of hippies having some fun in an obscure place (it is quite off the main highway) but then slowly, you become part of the group and feel nice. The food options are limited with the owner trying to persuade us to take the buffet which we wisely avoided. They have a nice drink 'in' the coconut - worth a try. Food was just about ok though but the pad thai was quite good. Not many options overall and tad disappointing in hindsight given the potential. The management was a bit tawdry and we witnessed some internal conflicts - not great and strictly avoidable.

Ample parking, easy to find Thai culinary experience in a truly Aussie setting. This lady's spring rolls are legendary at the Penneshaw markets. To see her food van set up in a very large shed/barn surrounded by lots of hungry people thoroughly enjoying themselves took the experience of her food to another level. Backed up by a very good local entertaining who sang most of the night, great freshly roasted coffee and a "mine host" constantly on the move made for a memorable KI experience.
