I've gotten to know the longtime staff and George, who have all felt like family to me for more than half my life. I'll always cherish the summers of my preteen years when I'd grab a slice after school with a drink in those classic styrofoam cups. With the recent news of George retiring and closing the shop—choosing not to pass on the legacy to his son or other family members—it's truly a heartbreaking blow. Chains just don’t have the same vibe as a family-run establishment, and there aren’t many mom-and-pop spots left. La Cañada has lost a local legend (everyone knows Georgee's), and I'm sure I’m not the only one feeling the sadness. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement, George! I will really miss you all.
This is my favorite local spot for pizza in the La Crescenta and La Canada area. I've tried their BBQ chicken, meat lovers, pepperoni, and cheese pizzas, and the ingredients are always fresh—you can really taste the quality. While some might consider it a bit expensive, I believe you get what you pay for.
After visiting this restaurant twice, I can confidently say that the star of the menu is the pizza, especially the La Canada Special, which is their take on a meat lover's pizza. It’s perfect for a quick and casual meal, with a great balance of toppings and dough. The small size is more than enough to satisfy two very hungry diners, and comfortably serves three without leaving any leftovers. During both visits, I noticed that most customers were opting for pizza, highlighting the restaurant's family-friendly atmosphere. As for the chicken strips and curly fries, they were just okay—not the highlight of the meal. The baked ziti was a pleasant surprise; instead of the typical cheesy dish usually associated with ziti, it featured fresh tomatoes. It resembled pasta with tomato sauce topped with cheese, which made for a refreshing twist. **Service:** You order at the counter, and your food is brought to your table. **Price:** Very reasonable. **Parking:** Convenient private lot available. **Location:** Just under 10 minutes away from Descanso Gardens. **Bottom Line:** If you’re looking for a quick pizza fix, this is the place to go!
We were pretty disappointed upon hearing that Georgee's closed for good. We found it one day several years ago while being in the area and hungry, so we stopped right in. Their Margherita and Hawaiian pizzas were always great, along with their Caprese salad and spinach salad. It quickly became one of our go to pizza joints. Staff was always nice even when we would often place a phone order 20 minutes before closing, and also very patient to answer questions regarding food allergies. So long Georgee's... we're not too wild about large pizza chains, but we'll see how Fresh Brothers pan out...
Food is decent enough that I 've been going there for the past 4 years, weekly. After today 's experience I will not go back and neither will my coworkers. I had ordered 4 sandwiches for me and my coworkers. The cashier lady, always pleasant, told me to go sit down and wait because the food wasn 't ready. So I go sit in the area they told me to sit and sit. I mind my own business while waiting for the food. About 10 minutes later this man comes out of the kitchen and shouts from a distance: Are you waiting for order or dining in? I replied I 'm waiting for an order His distant shout then grows into a yell directly to me THEN WHY ARE YOU SITTING THERE. SIT ON THIS OTHER SEAT! THATS ONLY FOR DINING! Then turns to his employees YOU GOTTA DO A BETTER JOB OF TELLING THEM WHERE TO SEAT! Then disappears back into the kitchen. The man it turns out was George himself, presumably the owner. This was my first time meeting him after coming for 4 yrs. Let 's break this down... I 'm a loyal customer sitting where their employees told me to sit. There 's no signage that says the seat is for dining only. He clearly knows that his employees are poorly trained and likely told me to sit at the wrong spot. The seat is also in plain view from the cash registers and the employees clearly saw where I was sitting for those 10 mins. And didn 't say anything. He comes out of the blue and yells at his loyal customer who wants to support his business instead of retraining his employees. The cashier did apologize on George 's behalf but it was one of those blanket apologies not addressing the actual situation. I thought about finding George in the kitchen and confronting but he was so aggressive in the way he treated me that that effort would have been a waste of my energy. So there you have it. Make your own decision on whether you want to support such business. I will not. And I threw my sandwich away. Couldn 't stomach eating it.
