Visited augustos with my husband, children and two friends. The restaurant is very clean, staff were very pleasant, and as for the food, it was AMAZING... all of it. I highly recommend this restaurant.
This place has a good location, at the stairs of the Sanctuario. On the terrace outside kids have some space to walk around within your view. A lot of choice for food. We had salades and pasta for the kids. Came back later that day for coffee and ice cream :
Busy Sunday with a Mini Car convention going on, nostalgic stuff. Saw a Morris Mini same color as our first car (circa 1965) Anyway, we came across this street cafe which sold, amongst other things, omelettes. The waiter was a young guy who spoke great English and was most helpful. For 13 euros I had a beautifully presented omelet, French fries, salad etc and Isobel had an imaginative wrap with fresh lemonade for both. The quality was excellent and made me realize that I should never again look down on street restaurants.
Stopped here when visiting the cathedral at the top of the 689 steps. (Forget the real name, but the steps start at the end of the plaza that this place is facing. There was a cherry festival going on in the plaza, it 's May and the cherries are already ripe and everybody is selling them by the bushel load. Wonderful, tasty cherries that are very cheap 4 to 5 euros for a Kilo. Anyway, the plaza was busy with the festival and it was great to sit on the plaza and people watch and listen to the music being piped in over the loud speakers. The waitress knew some English and worked hard to help us out. We ordered mixed salads and the special Portuguese sandwiches known as Francesinhas They were wonderful, stacks of various meats and sausages with cheese and egg in slices of thick white bread covered with tomato sauce. (Knife and fork sandwhich! Finally got to try them. It was fun! Menu had a lot of options that fit right in with the wine bar/tapas theme. Interesting thing is they didn 't seem to have white wine beyond house wine. They had 6 or 7 bottled reds, but the waitress didn 't know them, and they didn 't have a printed list she had to go inside and write them all down on a napkin for us. As I said, she hustled for us, was very nice. Overall, a nice stop, either to fortify you for the 689 steps or to help you recover afterwards.
