For years I have enjoyed Flipper's fish restaurant. It was the best roasted shrimp in town. I'm sad to report that the last two times I went the wonderful shrimps that we could be as a common place. Not the big jumbo perfect... kicked as they have been for years... just your average fat shrimp. It'll take a long time to come back!
We used to go to another seafood place, but since that went down the hill, we started to flipper's.... decently tasting food at a good price, service is ok, and we didn't have to wait long.... generous help...
There were 6 of us, the restaurant was full, but the waiters 't miss a little, serve us graciously fast and accurate, although we had language problems, but we were certainly in 'daring mode. We had a whole white fish (I don't remember... his name) about 12 long and a good 5 wide, We thought it was fried, but it was 'fat or oily, it was just fabulous! We tried their Pan de Cazon, another fish that was unknown to us served between tortillas, crushed is a delicious sauce, from sight! But her shrimp cocktail took the price, they prepare it very differently than we ever tasted here in the states, you compliment it with a scent of lime, a pinch of oregan, a good portion or finely cut onion, and voilá! What a treat. The jewel was the price, very, very reasonable if you take into account the service, the food and the friendly atmosphere. Should we go back to Merida, we would certainly return to Flipper 's
Our friends took us to our first visit to Flippers seafood restaurant in Merida. With our order of beers came a plethora of delicious boanas including the pototaoe salad which was delicious and quite a surprise. We each ordered a different item from the menu....The cerviche was outstanding, as was the whole fried fish, shrimp, etc. etc. I am glad we got there early (around 12:45 on a Sunday) because by the time we left at around 3:00 the place was completely filled. This is my go to place for an unpretentious seafood meal served by a great staff that obviously love what they do.
