I had not been to Deep Cove for some 25 years. It was excellent then and better now. The beautiful gardens overlooking the sea had been planted and matured. The food was superb. We arrived with 6 people and were advised to get a drink and wander in the garden, which we did. In the old fashioned way, you are there for the whole evening and should treat it that way. No rush. The wine list is vast and contains many old and expensive wines, but we found some good values as well. I was concerned about the large number of menu selections and how that would challenge the kitchen, but everything arrived as works of art. How they do it is beyond me. After 30 years of experience it is manageable. We all had fish as main courses and they came with choices of preparation and sauces. I wished I could have tried them all. The dinner proceeded at a leisurely pace and happily consumed the whole evening. The dessert selection was a challenge and I opted for something I last had in Paris. Superb. One of our group knew the owners and we were given a quick tour of the wine cellar, down a ladder and through a maze of bottles of wins stacked everywhere and labelled by sections of the wine list. A 100 year old Bordeaux could easily be found there. Afterwards we spoke with the owner/chef Pierre for a few minutes, with his habitual cigar after a hard night's work. Advice; Go there for a full evening and order 3 or 4 courses. It is a special place and worth every penny.
Just did daughter's wedding over lunch. Super fun and pretty accommodating but an overwhelming yet subtle push to have us out before evening setup. But I guess that's to be expected. Lucky for them I was the only heavy drinker. Of course the grounds are world class as is the cuisine in general, even a set meal for 100. A true bastion of style, and most unfortunately, on the island at least, one of the only remaining fine French establishments as most have gone to Bistro fare. The Deep Cove Chalet is a MUST when visiting Victoria if one seeks the best.
First, the setting for the restaurant is peaceful. Lots of windows looking out to the ocean. The hostess and wait staff are professional yet friendly and casual. Amazing menu for lunch typically not found in a restaurant. We had three courses and each course was presented perfectly. The sauce with the Halibut was exquisite. No question the Chalet is the best place for great food and wines on the peninsula.
Our fist visit to to this location. The seaside location on a very warm evening was magical; a pre-dinner beverage in the gardens prior to engaging dinner in the dining room was suggest by our Server. A very extensive and detailed Menu did offer some initial concern as to how the Kitchen would perform given the very large array of menu options. The food and the presentation was exceptional from Appetizers to Mains to desserts. Our foursome selected a very large array of Menu items; all of which was served in a timely and professional manner.
