I'm glad I did because it was by far the best Chinese food I've had in Central New York in the past 12 years. Having grown up in NYC, I've enjoyed a lot of excellent Chinese food, and this General Tso's ranks right up there with the best of them. I'm not sure about the rest of the menu, but I was pleasantly surprised. Thank you for a wonderful dinner tonight!
I understand that this restaurant has a mix of reviews, but I have to say that every time I dine here, the vegetables in every dish are incredibly fresh. There's no soggy broccoli or limp snow peas. The mushrooms are large and fresh, and the bok choy is crisp and delightful. Everything here is vibrant and colorful. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the food is prepared quickly. The aroma is much milder than at many other Chinese restaurants I've visited, likely because they don’t overdo it with salt and MSG.
Hunan Gourmet is a decent option for a quick meal, but I personally prefer other restaurants in Oneonta. They offer tofu and sweet white rice, which is satisfying, but I would rather dine at Number One Chinese on the east side.
