Feedback gevenWe had breakfast and coffee, both of which were tasty and reasonably priced. My only feedback is that the food preparation took longer than expected, which meant we ended up staying longer than planned. However, the food was fresh and the atmosphere was comfortable, so it wasn’t a problem—just a note for our next visit, as we do intend to come back. It’s a fun and unique establishment. If it were located in a more urban area, I’m sure it would be bustling with a wait for Sunday brunch. Make sure to support this local business!
We began with blended coffees—Cookies and Cream and Heath Mocha—which were delightfully delicious and could easily compete with Starbucks and Dunkin’. We also shared a bowl of Cream of Broccoli soup, one of their soups of the day (the other was Tomato Basil, which I’m sure pairs perfectly with their grilled cheese special). The soup was packed with broccoli and topped with flavorful cheddar. For lunch, I ordered the Turkey Ciabatta while my fiancé opted for the Chicken Panini (we shared halves of both). Each sandwich came with plain ridged chips. The Turkey Ciabatta featured an amazing orange-cranberry bread filled with roasted red peppers, spinach, and cheese—absolutely delicious! The Chicken Panini was stuffed with fresh pesto and roasted red peppers, served on a wonderfully soft pita-like bread. I have nothing negative to say about either dish! Of course, we had to finish off with dessert. I chose the Key Lime pie and my fiancé selected the Pecan pie. We decided to skip the whipped cream. The Pecan pie was just the right level of sweetness, with a wonderfully buttery and not-too-thick crust. The Key Lime pie was perfectly balanced—not overly tart—and had a lovely graham cracker crust. The Pecan pie was drizzled with caramel, while the Key Lime had a refreshing lime drizzle. Hands down, some of the best pie I’ve ever had! I can’t wait to enjoy more slices in the future. If this restaurant were located in a busier area, it would surely thrive! Everyone nearby really needs to check it out for fantastic breakfast, lunch, and desserts. They even host open mic nights! Plus, they frequently post specials on their Facebook page. We will definitely be back soon!
First off, let’s talk about the decor. The space feels much darker than the photos on Yelp, and they’ve added a lounge area with Victorian-style couches and a large TV, presumably to attract the goth crowd. While the death theme might be intended to create a unique atmosphere, it comes across as unrefined. Instead of a cozy café vibe, it feels more like a dive bar. I appreciate the loose teas in glass jars, but the $2 swap meet CDs and DVDs, along with skeleton-themed flower vases, aren’t particularly appealing. As for the food, we ordered a breakfast burrito, French toast, and a tuna wrap. Priced between $3 and $5 each, they were decent—though I wouldn’t say they were a great deal considering their average quality. The only standout item was the seeded bread accompanying the French toast. I opted for self-serve coffee, which isn’t refillable; this is an important detail to keep in mind when comparing this place to some of the pricier options I mentioned earlier. We decided to skip dessert after noticing the limited pie selection, with only three choices available (contrary to the ten options portrayed in some Yelp photos). The pie pictures online looked far more appealing than what we encountered during our visit, which makes me wonder if they were staged for social media. In fact, it’s not even clear that they serve pie here at all. In summary, if you find yourself particularly hungry in Bangor, Pies to Die For is a reasonable choice, but it’s not worth a special trip. You’d be better off grabbing a sandwich at Wegmans Cafe instead.
Great pies here! The blueberry crumb is awesome. They even have hot poes and other food too. The owners are really nice and they gave great suggestions.
Best blueberry pie ever! And amazing Hazelnut coffee on this cold November day. Thank you for the amazing experience
