School House Restaurant

Excellent meal pre-arranged for 32 guests - mostly family - and everyone was delighted and well satisfied with the experience.

My wife and I had a three-course dinner here and were out in less than an hour. I don't take this personally any more - it's just the Manitoulin Island way. Our servers didn't appear to have much time for chatting, which is a shame, since the restaurant is situated in a former school house and we sat on long benches which pupils had clearly once used. A less harried wait staff could have made our experience more welcoming. We started off with a so-so caprese salad followed by a decent steak and a strawberry shortcake dessert. Including a bottle of red wine and a martini, the cost before tip was just $125 Canadian for two people, which is very good value.

The food was excellent. We loved the portobello mushroom. it was delicious and very filling. the home made desserts were excellent too! However, i do agree with a previous comment that the wine wasn't good enough for the food

Food was truly delicious. Ambiance and decor were great. Wine was average. I was a bit shocked when I was told that the coffee was Nescafe....

We chose this little restaurant to celebrate an anniversary. The menu is small with only a few offerings. My husband ordered the lamb, which I was surprised was New Zealand lamb (as printed on the menu) and not from the island, especially since it boasts local ingredients. I had the stuffed chicken breast. The portions are small. Each entrée is served with roasted vegetables which consisted of two very small red potatoes, four asparagus, two slices of carrot and one small slice of red pepper. I found the prices to be very high for what was served, each entrée over $25. The food was mediocre at best. I realize that choices are limited on Manitoulin Island, but the value for money definitely is NOT there at this restaurant. Go across the street and have fish and chips.
