There is a Restaurant area, and Rooms, within the Pub but we 've never made use of it. Over our three night stay, Frid. to Mon. was called in, as we had done in previous holiday visits to Whitby. What a change though on our visit this time. New Owners have taken over the running of the Business, and its made a big difference. More choices of the 'well kept ' Real Ale beers, and this has created a rise in Customers, not only Visitors, but the return of 'Locals '. On our second night visit we met up with a lovely couple, (Locals),and spent a very pleasant evening chatting with them. Turned out the Lady in question was the Chef and in fact it was from her we gleaned the updated info. We 'll be back next year, for sure. FrasandBev.
We visited for lunch on a wet Saturday and had a really nice meal. Given the rain it was pretty busy in both the bar and the restaurant. It’s a find a table and order with your number at the bar type of place which could be clearer as you walk in. Tables are spread around the ground floor in various spaces so it is not obvious what you need to do. We waited by the bar unsure if we needed to wait to be seated but no staff came near so eventually we cottoned on and sat at a table. A bit more of a welcome would have been nice. The food was a typical Whitby fish based menu. We had king prawns and scampi and it was fine. The kitchen must have been working hard given the number of customers but the wait wasn’t too long. Good pub grub I would say and in a really central location so ideal if walking around the town centre.
Lovely hotel, large room no 1) with a great view of the harbour, surprisingly quiet considering it’s in a busy position , clean with a really big comfy bed and good shower. The staff were great, really helpful and the breakfast was great, which is in my opinion is one of the marks of a good hotel. We would definitely stay there again.
Food was discussing roast beef u edible several people complained but staff not seem bothered give it a wide berth lots of better places to eat in whitby
Called in here during a quiet time for a drink. They had a cocktail menu so two people from our party asked for a cocktail. The barman made out like it was a huge inconvenience to make the cocktails, didn’t know the price and had to ask another member of staff what one of the cocktail consisted of. After all the fuss we said it’s fine we’ll have vodka lemonade instead and as he was making the drinks he called us “f ing idiots”. Very rude staff wouldn’t recommend coming here.
