One of the few Indonesian resteraunts in Seattlestaff is friendly, decent sized menu for fair prices. Wasn't in the mood for too spicy so I had Bakmi
Beef rendang was a hit! Very tender, fall-apart pieces flavored just right(Not too salty like some other places).
Hidden gem of a place. Not much of an ambience and the seating is very basic. My reviews are generally about great food and not so much about ambience and I put a lot of weight on the former. Authentic Indonesian cuisine and generous portions. The dishes come in ala carte style but you can share as family style. Just ask them to serve the rice in a separate plate. Good variety of dishes that will give you a broad experience/exposure to the Indonesian cuisine. I read other reviews that this place is authentic and I agree. It is the most authentic in town and probably the only one around. I also read that it was hard to pronounce the names of dishes and/or not knowing what they are. I recommend reading the description. The description will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about the dish. I personally love places that use original names of dishes. Best way to get immersed/introduced to the culture without leaving your own backyard. It is part of the overall experience and learning about other cultures. The menu layout and using the original names factored heavily in my review. We had the Kang Kong (On Choy), Ayam Cabe Ijo (ayam=chicken), and Daging Tuturupa (daging=beef). All were very flavorful. We have a high tolerance for spiciness so we selected spicy. I think it would be too spicy for most. It seems like the spice level is either spicy or mild with no in between but suggest you ask if there is something in between. The Chendol was a nice finishing touch and is a popular dessert in South East Asia. It does not have the variety of ingredients as the ones we had because this only came with the grass jelly and small pieces of mango. It is also sweeter than most that we have tried but still good. Friendly and fast service. We arrived at about 6:45pm on a Friday evening and there wasn't a crowd. It is advertised that they close at 8pm and shortly after our food arrived and we started eating, at around 7:20pm, they went around to the tables asking for last orders because the kitchen is closing. I felt it was a little early to be closing the kitchen but it was not a big deal. Just stating this here so readers are not crunched for time. When they came around with that announcement, we placed the dessert order. They did time the serving of dessert correctly after we finished the main course. So it is not like the dessert sat around while we finished up. Parking was tight in the parking lot in front of the restaurant but seems like the traffic is for the adjacent business (a beauty salon). We had to back out and circle the block and park in the lot BEFORE and right next to the building. Adjacent to the wrecking yard in the back. It was tricky to back out of the main lot onto Aurora, so be careful. We'll definitely be back to try the other dishes. We'll try a fish dish (Ikan=fish) the next time we come.
I love this hole in a wall restaurant. The dishes are so diverse and varied. I never had Indonesian food and this popped up looking for restaurants. It is a cozy place with so many different dishes. I loved the appetizer sample to try all that they had. The had like mini egg rolls and fried wonton with two delicious sauces. The sampler gave us such a good taste of what they had to offer. The chicken I ordered was crispy and moist! I would come back to this place to have more dishes and expose more of my friends. The waiter was nice and easily flagged down for attention. The parking lot is a little small, but there is more parking to the south of the plaza; so, sizeable parking.
