As someone with severe seafood allergies, I have to be extremely cautious about what I eat to avoid cross-contamination. Unfortunately, this establishment is heavily focused on seafood, which is also reflected across its restaurants. I'm not much of a meat eater either, so when we were told by an impolite staff member that we couldn’t dine at the buffet without a blue card membership, we left and sought the help of another employee who had recommended this place. I was excited to find a restaurant that seemed to offer a good selection of food. To my dismay, the menu leaned heavily on seafood and meat, presenting a significant risk for cross-contamination. As a vegetable lover, I was disappointed that I couldn’t simply order a side of potatoes and asparagus à la carte. I would have appreciated at least a veggie burger option, but there was none available. The only option I felt safe ordering was the spinach artichoke dip. To my surprise, it was quite tasty, though it resembled more of a southwestern queso dip with breadcrumbs rather than a traditional spinach dip. I honestly don’t think real spinach was even in it, but it was still very flavorful. I wish there had been at least one pasta dish with a side of vegetables or a veggie burger, or even the option to order some sides à la carte. More inclusive offerings for various dietary needs would go a long way. Though they do have pizza on the menu, nothing particularly appealed to me for dinner. The atmosphere felt like a bar trying to be a dive, with plenty of TVs for sports, which was a nice touch. I didn’t order a cocktail and we weren’t provided with a drink menu, but I assume they offer more than just beer. The customer service, however, was simply dreadful. I should have checked reviews before we seated ourselves. The staff lacked warmth; there wasn’t even a simple greeting or any small talk like “Hi, how are you?” or “Have you dined here before?” Not a single smile was offered. I’m not expecting Disney-level customer service, but being acknowledged and greeted in a friendly way would have been appreciated. Our server took about 15 minutes to greet us and take our order. They never asked if we wanted a drink menu and were curt and unhelpful when we inquired about the menu. Our overall experience was far from positive. We also faced a long wait to settle our bill, and the automatic gratuity felt excessive—especially for such poor service. I genuinely don’t think the server deserved a tip, as they failed to provide any meaningful service or experience. A possible solution would be to install kiosks at the table for ordering and payment to reduce the reliance on servers, who already fall short of delivering good customer service. This was my first and only experience at this restaurant, and the negatives far outweighed any positives. The spinach artichoke dip was flavorful, but it wasn’t a filling option for someone looking for a real dinner. **Vegetarian options:** There are only two salad choices, and the menu is otherwise dominated by seafood and meats, or just two appetizers: the spinach artichoke dip and cauliflower bites, or French onion soup. **Dietary restrictions:** There is a risk of cross-contamination. Options for gluten-free or celiac-friendly diners are nonexistent, as are vegan choices, with only a limited selection for vegetarians.
Whenever I stay at Harrah's Casino, I always make it a point to dine here, and my husband enjoys it just as much! We've tried the salad, pizza, and nachos, and everything has been delicious. We informed our server that we would be sharing our meal, and she kindly had it divided for us. Every staff member I've encountered has been very friendly. I wish you had additional locations, like in California. I also hope I could stay at Valley View to sample more of your amazing dishes!
If you’re a vegan reading this, it’s likely because you’re being taken here by non-vegan family members. There are much better vegan-friendly options available at other casinos (like Harrah's, Sycuan, Viejas, etc.), and unfortunately, this place does not offer a better experience. On December 3, 2022, I ordered the Impossible San Diego while clearly stating it was for vegans—my receipt confirmed this. In the past, this was enough for them to understand. I placed my order at the takeout window and, in our rush, I didn’t check it before leaving. An hour later, when I checked, I discovered it came with a bun (which the staff had previously told me was NOT VEGAN) and cheese. I attempted to call about the issue but got hung up on twice before finally reaching Cheryl (the owner), who suggested my order was likely swapped with someone else's—potentially containing real meat—and assured me she would resolve the issue during my next visit. I returned on December 23, 2022, and mentioned my previous experience, only to be assured again that I would be taken care of. Everything seemed fine initially; our server Eliana was friendly, and we were even offered guacamole and tortilla chips. However, being nice doesn’t always equate to competence. I ordered exactly the same way I had before, expecting that Cheryl would have informed the staff about the vegan modifier and how my order needed to be prepared. Yet, as everyone else's meals were served, mine arrived with the burger buns and cheese instead of the lettuce wrap I requested. While they took it back to correct the order, it came back as a lettuce wrap without cheese (good), but it also had parmesan fries (not good). Parmesan is not vegan, and it wasn’t what I ordered—I specifically asked for tater tots. This required yet another correction before they finally got it right. I assumed that being “taken care of” meant I would receive some special treatment due to the previous mistake, perhaps even a complimentary meal. However, when the bill arrived, my burger was still included. It seemed Cheryl had not communicated anything to Eliana about the purpose of my visit. After explaining the situation to Eliana, she graciously removed the Impossible burger from the bill but mentioned she couldn’t get in touch with Cheryl. I understand it can be busy, but this illustrates a clear need for better communication and organization among the staff. Cheryl’s remark about mix-ups being a common issue is alarming. How can I be sure I received the Impossible patty during my second visit if order swaps are so frequent? In the end, I didn’t receive any form of apology in follow-up communications, but Cheryl promised to improve. Whether any changes will actually be made remains to be seen. Just be cautious! While I recognize that they are trying, there is still significant room for improvement.
I wouldn’t recommend sitting at this bar on a Friday evening. The bartender was rude and dismissive, particularly if you only want to order premium cocktails. He seemed more focused on socializing with his friends than on providing service to other patrons. He made his bar back take care of us while he did nothing. As someone in the hospitality industry, I found it disappointing to see such a lack of professionalism. If I decide to return to Valley View Casino, I will take my business—and my tips—back to Black and Blue instead. Please consider hiring friendlier staff who truly appreciate your customers. Thank you.
