The place is decorated in a cute Bavarian style, and the employees are very informative. I probably spent a good 10 minutes at the counter learning about different types of meats and sausages before finalizing my order. Loved the spicy beer brats and can't wait to come back for a Reuben
This place is amazing .. the nice lady behind the counter walked me thru all their specialties and I walked out with way more than intended .. I can assure you the apple strudels, home made mustard and krout are very tasty ... I was most surprised that the bratwurst was so amazingly tasteful.. it didn't have the premise garbage spice flavor .. it was very mild and tasted of very good meat and paired very well with the German beer I simmered them in . Ask questions and get good stuff!!
This place was awesome. I'm devastated they have closed without warning. Looks like it's undergoing a remodel. The sign says a pub will open in its place.
After reading some of the reviews on Yelp, I was worried about coming here in person to purchase cooked items, as I read how the basics of this shop were not taken care of here, not to mention a rat was hovering out in their patio area yikes! And so, I decided to order for delivery instead. I've been wanting to try their sausages for a while, and I didn't want anything to sway me. I ordered: Sausage Sampler with Sauerkraut and Mashed Potatoes Hungarian Sausage on a Bun with Potato Salad I thought the sausage sampler was just ok, kind of fibrous. The mash potatoes were terrible. Too smooth and lacked flavor, lumps or any kind of texture. You know it came from a box. Can't say much about the sauerkraut as I did not partake any. Not a fan of it. The Hungarian sausage on a bun was tasty but the bun was unbelievably stale. The potato salad was the best thing in the box. Flavorful and delicious! The food overall was subpar at best. I would not be in a hurry to order from them anytime soon.
Wow! How have I never been here before?!? I've lived near here for over 10 years, but have somehow missed out on this place. So sad all the meals I could've had here. Better late than never. I had the Reuben today. Not the biggest, but by FAR the best I've had in Portland (and I've had a lot). It's the sauerkraut it's so good. Other people were eating the white bratwurst, so I will be back for that sooner than later. About to try the dessert (rum cherry cake). What a pleasant surprise this place was.
