I also got to try the Meringue Crust Lemon Pie, and I can't stop thinking about that recipe! The food was fantastic overall. I’ll definitely recommend this place to my friends, and I hope to return someday!
The Rustic has been a staple during my family's visits to the North Shore for the past decade. The quality of the food is consistently top-notch, no matter what you choose—I've never been let down. My family's go-to order usually includes side salads with their homemade French blue cheese dressing, followed by pork tenderloin sandwiches. I am truly saddened to be in the Twin Cities right now, as I find myself longing for their delicious food.
To the person who suggested going to Betty's Pies and criticized the Rustic Inn's food, it seems you might prefer fast food. My family and I have dined at both places. At Betty's, I experienced a thawed frozen pie crust topped with canned blueberries and a hefty serving of whipped cream. My wife ordered the banana cream pie, which contained just two banana slices and was again overwhelmingly loaded with whipped cream. In contrast, at the Rustic Inn, I enjoyed a pie with a delightful crumbly crust and a scoop of ice cream on the side. Yes, the wait was longer, but that’s because the food is truly worth it. If you can't wait for something exceptional, then perhaps you should reconsider what you seek in life. If you're just after quick, unhealthy meals, the Rustic Inn may not be for you. But for those who appreciate life, take your time to browse the gift shop or enjoy the stunning scenery while you wait. You'll be rewarded with a fantastic meal followed by some truly outstanding pie!
Food was over salted. Pie was raw on the bottom. Server was rude and told us nothing was wrong with our food. Expensive for a place that calls itself a cafe.
We got a recommendation at an art store in Duluth when she found out we were heading for Split Rock Lighthouse. She said it was the best pie anywhere, and she was in earnest. Now, around here we're partial to Lange's Restaurant pies in Pipestone, but the Rustic Inn is the place to go if you're looking for pie to savor. I got the special, a lunch of blue fin herring, and it was pan-fried to perfection. The wife got a great sandwich, and we both got pie, mine a five-layer chocolate pie and hers an apple crumble. Service was fantastic. It's a great place to stop.
