Despite India's reputation for mediocre and slow service, Sheenu stands out for its quality. With one of the best views of Varanasi's ghats, especially the crowded Meer Ghat, the atmosphere at Sheenu is pleasant with candles and lights. While there may be mosquitoes at night, the menu offers a variety of Indian, Western, and even Chinese dishes. The special thalis come highly recommended. If you're craving fried eggs with potatoes, you can request them, although it may not be the best choice.
Unfortunately, my family and I were unable to stay at Ganpati guest house as reservations were full. We went on the recommendation of some friends from the Basque country who spoke highly of the place, the hotel, and its services. However, after a long walk through the ghats, we were pleased to meet Chiku, the friendly and professional owner of the establishment. We were able to relax on the hotel terrace while enjoying a meal from the restaurant. The views from the terrace were extraordinary, overlooking the Ganges River and providing a sense of calm. We were able to witness sacred Hindu rituals and baths from our privileged vantage point. The menu was diverse, offering traditional Indian vegetarian dishes with a milder spice level for those who prefer it. The staff was kind and attentive. We were pleasantly surprised to find Spanish dishes on the menu, a rarity since arriving in India. We enjoyed dishes like fried eggs and a delicious vegetable roll. The meal was topped off with banana chocolate pakoras which were a hit with the children. Thanks to the team at Sheenu restaurant and Ganpati guest house for a memorable evening. "Bahut accha hai! bahut accha lagara hai!" (It was very good! It was very enjoyable!)
Located on the rooftop of Hotel Ganpati in Varanasi, Sheenu is not only highly recommended for its breathtaking views, but also for its food and service, which can be quite average and slow in India. Sheenu offers one of the best views of the Ghats of Varanasi, as it is situated above one of the busiest, the Meer Ghat. Despite the presence of mosquitoes at night, the ambiance is very pleasant with candles and lights, although it may be too dim to see the dishes clearly. In addition to traditional Indian dishes, Sheenu also offers some Western and even Chinese options on its menu. I recommend trying the special Thali. If you are craving fried eggs with potatoes, you can order them, although I do not recommend it...but it can satisfy your cravings.
