Little Sesame - Washington DC

Always wanted to try this tiny restaurant in Chinatown. I went there just now, and I was told that it was permanently closed as of 8/25/2022. My loss.

I came here on a Friday afternoon since I wanted to try their non-dairy oat milk soft serve ice cream. They have vanilla or Turkish dark chocolate flavors or you can get twist of both flavors. You can also get various toppings (cocoa nibs, halva, soomsoom) as well. I ordered twist with soomsoom (crunchy sesame) topping. It was so delicious and creamy that I did not miss dairy. Without the topping, it was slightly bland. The soomsoom topping was very crunchy and gave it a nutty flavor. I was thinking of getting the halva topping but usually halva is too sweet for me. A lot of people came here to eat their bowls so I definitely have to try it next time I'm in DC!

I found Little Sesame on a quick Yelp search after visiting the Portrait Gallery nearby. The pictures of the ice cream sealed the deal! It was a little tricky to find because Google maps is really off here, so just use a regular map if possible; it's on 6th right near H and is NOT in Gallery Place or Capital One arena...oh Google...you don't know where this is... Anyway, I found it! I ordered a vanilla tahini oat milk soft serve with sesame cookie crumbles and would never in a million years have guessed this was a vegan dessert. It was creamy and wonderful. Things have come a long way since the days of soy milk.... The flavor was amazing! No idea why more places don't make this. The sesame crumble added a delightful texture and enhanced the sesame flavor of course. I also ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich to go. It travelled well, was big and very filling and the fresh mint and other herbs were a great touch. Staff were friendly and helpful and food was ready quickly. This is a great option for a sweet treat and takeout sandwiches. They do have a smallish seating area if you do prefer to eat in.

Very tasty frozen treats!! Get the extra toasted sesame. Feels like a little oasis in Downtown DC

I want to single out Crystal for a major shout out! Crystal received my order on line and caught a mistake I made and called me BEFORE I even noticed! I am so grateful she did! I have been ordering from Little sesame for a while now get cravings for the hummus, pita and eggplant sandwich. Now I ;love Little Sesame even more. Thank you Crystal and thank you Little Sesame.
