I called D'Artagnan and they told me the closest place to purchase it was in DC. I went and bought the Tasso ham, but it was almost double the price compared to what I used to pay at Wegmans.
The restaurant keeps expanding their menu and increasing prices, but much of it is not up to par. I have been a regular customer for 30 years, but it is disappointing to see the decline in quality. Despite this, I still enjoy a few items on the menu, even if I know I will be overcharged. When I try something new or revisit an old favorite, it is often a disappointment. For example, the $16 Italian sub I ordered had subpar ingredients like brown/grey salami. This is a clear sign of poor management. The restaurant needs to make improvements or they will not survive. I am not giving up on them yet, but I will not hesitate to share my honest feedback.
The restaurant has greatly declined in recent years under new management. My crab cake sandwich was overloaded with mayo, coleslaw, and mustard. My husband's brisket sandwich was drowning in a sauce that resembled Big Mac sauce. Despite billing itself as a BBQ spot now, his sandwich did not have any BBQ sauce and instead had a strange combination of mayo and ketchup.
The food is ok. The selection is decent. The one star is because the past two times in there, they have doubled charged me for drinks that I did not buy.
I love going to Wagshal's for my late lunch/ early dinner break. Sure the sandwiches are a bit on the pricier side, like $16 for tuna melt. And it was very crunchy due to over abundance of celery that gave it a rather astringent taste. BUT, the service is friendly, and the turnaround time was great! I loved the steak and cheese sandwich I got a few days ago using DoorDash and can't wait to try other items they offer. Their cake displays were incredible looking too. And the empanadas. Oh I better stop!
