In fact, we waited over an hour for a table at another restaurant in the city on the same day we ordered from here. So, I have nothing but positive things to say about this experience, and we’re looking forward to better coordinating our schedules so we can dine in, even if it means waiting!
My son chose katsudon, while my daughter and I shared an extra-large shoyu ramen, and my wife ordered the katsukare. The shoyu ramen's broth was a bit lighter than we expected, but still quite delicious. My son thoroughly enjoyed his katsudon, and my wife was happy with her dish as well, although each of our meals differed slightly from what we remembered having in Japan. The restaurant has a selection of Japanese shows playing on the TV, which kept my kids entertained. Unfortunately, the experience was somewhat marred when the manager became visibly upset and yelled at the staff, disrupting the otherwise pleasant atmosphere. To top it off, we were given the wrong bill when it was time to settle up. Kid-Friendliness: The anime on the screens is a nice touch for families.
Although the food arrived promptly, we were served on chipped ceramic plates. I brought up the health and safety concern with the server, who assured me she would notify the manager. Unfortunately, no action was taken to address the issue. They should have replaced those damaged dishes right away!
Ramen is one of my favorite dishes, but this experience didn’t meet my expectations. I always go for tonkotsu wherever I visit. While the broth and noodles were spot on, the egg was overcooked, and the pork was chewy instead of tender and melt-in-your-mouth as I’ve come to expect. Unfortunately, the service also fell short during our first visit. We noticed that other tables seated after us were served before us. Additionally, there was a mix-up with our appetizers; we waited an extra 15 minutes for half of them and had to leave before the second half even arrived. Thankfully, they were gracious enough not to charge us for the appetizers, but this reflects my honest thoughts on our first and likely last visit.
Kamen Ramen is the perfect spot for satisfying a craving for ramen. I ordered the volcano ramen, which I found to be not very spicy. I also requested a milder version. We tried the gyoza as well, and it was fantastic! It really awakened my taste buds—I’ve been searching for great gyoza everywhere, and this place nailed it! I have no complaints about the service either. I will definitely be returning!
