We decided to go past the usual franchises available on these roads and decided to go for the first Chinese that fell on our way. The place was empty. There were plenty of tables of different sizes. The man , possibly the owner, who received us, was a little grumpy . Gave us a two seater table and then vanished. His wife came and took our orders. Since we, an elderly couple, are a small eaters, we ordered a soup each - (a) chicken corn and (b) wonton soup and a plate of fried rice with prawn. The lady thought that we had ordered too little. After serving the dishes we were left alone and the people including some tradesman were busy installing new chinese chandeliers. We had to call the lady once to give us a jug of water. As they served no Chinese tea with the meal (they do so in the Chinese restaurants we visit in Melbourne) we had to ask for two cups of tea. They charged us AUD 5.20 for the tea. Overall , we were satisfied. We got what we wanted - a change in taste at a reasonable price. NO regrets.
Food is fine, some dishes are delicious, some a bit less so.It is chinese food - what's not to like?Son loves the honey chicken whereas I like the honey pepper steak.Service was reasonably quick, and pleasant enough, prices reasonable. In 2017 this business has no website, and limited social media. On the night we went there was no Eftpos available, as they were awaiting a new machine apparently, thus accepting cash only. Awkward with a pocket full of credit cards and no folding. Place does get a lot of Tourist buses returning / travelling to the Great Ocean road stopping nearby. We will return, but not in a hurry.
We have been there once yesterday when we were on our way back to Geelong. The sweeet n sour pork was terrible and the sauce was completely **** and made out of the can ketchup and not acceptable. The satay beef wasnt too bad, got a bit of peanut and satay sauce - average dish. The lemon chicken was a bit too dry and sauce wasnt good which too acidic and onyl very little sauce.
Great little country Chinese place. Takeaway dinner deals under $11 that seemed to be really popular with the locals. We had 2 mains and steamed rice, and could only eat half of it - they really shoved it in, the containers were bulging. Delicious. Wish this place was near where I live!
Great hosts, always enjoy the meal. The interior could do with a make over but the food is always delicious.
