The Old Ghan Restaurant - Hawker

During our trip to the Flinders Ranges, we had the pleasure of dining at The Old Ghan. I had made reservations for dinner on both Friday and Saturday to treat my sister to our favorite restaurant. On Friday night, there were four of us and Bob's talented chef impressed us with excellent meals. Bob himself served as the sommelier and took the time to chat with us. The following night, we were a group of 14, with some guests having made advance bookings. Once again, the meals were outstanding, but Bob was clearly overwhelmed, especially considering he had recently undergone an operation. Despite the busy night, we will definitely return to The Old Ghan next time we visit the Flinders Ranges.

Situated in the historic Hawker station, this restaurant provided a refreshing alternative to the typical Formula Pub Bistros. The menu was excellent, the service was top-notch, and the dishes were perfectly cooked with generous portions. Definitely worth a visit. The owner had a unique charm that added to the overall dining experience.

So nice to have a nice restaurant food, we got sick from pub food. The menu has many of the pub standards, but also so many other options. The place has history that makes it interesting. Bob the owner ran the show that took orders, led the bar and led the kitchen around. It is the character and very entertaining. The food was delicious. Make sure you book.

The atmosphere was pleasant and the food was decent. I made a reservation for 7 o'clock but Bob couldn't join me as he had other obligations. He is now in his 70s and must retire, despite being a nice man. The music was enjoyable.

In the middle of a mini cyclone, the proprietor helped us with urgent accommodation for 6 of our party when we were not able to return to Wilpena Pound due to flooding. Very thankful for the help we received!
