Mr Chicken - Sydney Mines

I've had plenty of delicious deep fried chicken in my life, and I have to say this was the absolute best I've EVER eaten! Perfect flavor, not too greasy, gravy was amazing and the workers were funny! Definitely want to go back and it is an absolute MUST when doing the Cabot Trail.

We stopped here for lunch- enticed by the beautiful weather and lots of outdoor seating. This chicken has KFC beat, hands down! Not that it would take much to beat KFC but as far as fried chicken in Canada is concerned, Mr. Chicken and Lick-A-Chick are it. Reasonably priced with value meal options. The chicken is clearly fresh and prepared to order. The french fries are crinkle cut and deep fried to a crisp that will make your tastebuds sing. The ladies in the restaurant were warm and welcoming, as we have come to expect now on the island- you just feel like part of their family and all you've done is ordered chicken.

You have to give the staff credit at this restaurant for staying friendly and helpful despite long line ups for food in the heat of the summer. Those who want a taste of Mr. Chicken must be prepared to remain calm and patient as this food is in high demand in Cheticamp. We ordered the five piece econo meal which came with 5 pieces of chicken with two pieces being a very good size chicken breast with a drumstick and a wing as well plus a decent serving of fries for two people to share. We ordered a side of pasta salad over and above the meal which was one of the best pasta salads I have received at a take out. It was more like a homemade one you would bring to a potluck with peas and bits of broccoli in a vinaigrette. We ordered a medium and it came in a 8 ounce styrofoam cup. The chicken was very tasty with a thin crispy batter and I liked it more than KFC. The fries were crinkle cut and they were food too but just your average fry. They serve bottles of pop and water for drinks and we also ordered a cup of tea. The ladies on the counter were very helpful and smiled the whole time despite a steady influx of customers at supper time. Some folks had called ahead but they were also waiting. One thing is certain the chicken is freshly cooked and piping hot when you get it and not sitting out or pre-packaged. There are only about 4 booths inside and picnic tables outside with a soft service counter outside as well. There is really no shade in the picnic table area so this should be kept in mind. This is great fried chicken and I would say if you plan ahead and get your food in non-peak times it would be quicker. We didn't mind the wait as positive energy was plentiful from the staff and for the most part people were just happy to get their chicken whenever it was ready. Service is bilingual. I'm looking forward to my next trip to Cheticamp to get more Mr. Chicken!

We orders a couple orders of French fries after our hike in the park. Counter service was fast. Fries were frozen but cooked well. Seemed like a busy spot approaching supper time. 4 or 5 tables inside and a few picnic tables outside.

I took my little girl here to get a late lunch or early supper! She insisted on going here because she loves their chicken. But me I chose somewhere else. I took my daughter in and the woman at the counter had about as much personality as a toad! I don't believe I even heard her voice let alone heard her say thank you. I went to pay and I did NOT have the choice to with hold a tip. So I tipped her $2 for her ignorance. If you don't like your job QUIT!
